It is perfect both for those who are looking to get away from it all and have a quiet break, but also those want to experience all that the area offers. Please contact us for prices and current availability.

For the more adventurous, there is also a parachuting centre about 4km from the apartment that you can book tandem jumps with.

Situated on the western coast of France, the region is famous for its excellent wines, vineyards and climate. Close to Bordeaux, the Medoc area that effectively runs along the shores of the Gironde River has the ideal climate for growing superb wines and it is especially known for its red wines in particular. The temperatures in the summer can reach 33 degrees Celcius, and the sea can reach about 22 degrees. On the route to Soulac sur Mer you will see many vineyards with their chateaux that are usually open to visitors, although it is a good idea to call ahead to make sure that someone will be available to give you a tour, and help you with the wine tasting if it is of interest as many of the wines are delicious. The diverse landscapes ranging from vineyards to sand dunes in the middle of lush forest (Arcachon) to beautiful long beaches means that there is something to appeal to everyone with kilometres of cycle & bridle paths, hiking trails and stunning scenery.

The area is also full of rich history varying from chateaux that have been in families for generations, to lighthouses that were built in the 16th century that you may recognise, and obviously most people know about Bordeaux.

Soulac Sur Mer as the name suggests is right by the sea (the Atlantic Ocean to be precise) and the beach which seems to run forever, is beautifully clean and well maintained, and even at peak times does not get too crowded. The town itself is very attractive, with friendly locals, family friendly evening events, good restaurants and the general amenities you would expect to find in a french town. It also has a church in the heart of it that was found to be buried beneath the sand as it has no spire and to this day you can still see the rings at the top of the building that horses used to be tethered to!

If you enjoy wine you really must try to visit some of the vineyards (some charge a small fee, others are free entry) and if you would like to do something more active, hire a bike and get out into the surrounding countryside as there are cycle & hiking trails galore with picnic areas along the routes, and if you're up to it book yourself a tandem parachute jump.

Alternatively, the laid back and friendly atmosphere of Soulac means that if you just want to chill out and relax by the sea it is just as ideal.

How to get there
A number of airlines such as Flybe, BMI Baby, Air France, KLM & British Airways have flights into Bordeaux Airport which is the closest terminal to Soulac. From there you can hire a car from the terminal from reputable companies like, Avis, Europcar, Hertz etc. A small car for 4 people starts from £160 per week dependent on the currency exchange rate. From Bordeaux there is almost a direct road link via the A630 onto the N215, and then the D1E4 that takes you into Soulac Sur Mer. If you would like to take a more scenic route you can travel through the vineyards that are famous for producing Médoc wines and having many chateaux including the Chateaux Mouton (part of the famous Rothschild family estates). Many are available to visit, have a tour and do some wine tasting at, although it would be adviseable to call ahead to check that someone will be available to show you round as in high season it can get quite busy.
